The title Like the green fig tree is an excerpt taken from Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar. In the novel the narrator, Esther Greenwood, talks of her choice paralysis about what path to take in life, and how despite a situation of seeming abundance she is actually left with nothing.
The exhibition extrapolated on this idea, and how in a world where information is so readily available, we find ourselves in the midst of a precarious and confusing global situation. Artists referenced the failings of society, and a pervading culture of illusion, confusion and desensitisation.
